THE PROGRAM

My name is Sherry Perry. I am a devoted wife and mother of three beautiful adult children, a strong believer in the faith, and I am a driven educator who is passionate about literacy for all! I have been teaching and leading in education for over 17 years. I received my Master of Science degree in Reading from California State University of Fullerton, and I hold a Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist credential. I am also a Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist & member of the International Dyslexia Association.

After completing more than 170 practicum hours utilizing the Orton Gillingham structured literacy approach, I personally know & believe that the literacy gap can be closed with strategic and targeted reading instruction. This is why I continue to learn and grow my knowledge, as well as partake in evidence-based reading research so that I am equipped with the appropriate tools & strategies to support those that struggling with acquiring & developing their reading skills.

I am also inspired by courageous and committed individuals that have come before me, like Mary S. Peake. She taught freed slaves (young and old) to read and write under the shade of a live oak tree in 1839. She faced many obstacles, worked with minimum resources, yet, she persisted in teaching those who seeked out her services to learn to read and write.

It is because of trailblazers like Mary S. Peake, that The Reading Epiphany is committed to teaching reading, passionate about our service, and moving courageously through the layers of reading complexity to transform the literacy experience for those we am able to serve.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when we know better, do better.”

The Orton Gillingham Approach

Our Approach

At The Reading Epiphany, we focus on providing customized intervention to meet the needs of the learner utilizing the Orton Gillingham structured literacy approach.

The OG approach is:

  • Prescriptive – attending specifically to the learners individual needs
  • Diagnostic – continuous progress monitoring in response to learners growth
  • Multisensory – instruction that integrates auditory, visual, and kinesthetics
  • Explicit, Systematic & Cumulative (but flexible) – concepts clearly taught; instruction that moves from easiest to complex; previously taught skills reinforced to mastery
  • Language-Based – practice based on the structure & history of the English language; integrating oral language, reading, spelling, and writing

Who We Serve

We are currently serving 1st – 6th grade students who demonstrate significant reading difficulties or those who have been diagnosed with dyslexia.
